강남 논현역 뒤편, 영동시장 골목 안에 네온사인이 켜져 있다. 장생건강원. 이름만 보면 홍삼즙이나 흑염소 진액을 파는 건강원이 맞다. 실제로 이 자리에서 20년 가까이 그 건강원이 운영됐다. 그 이름 그대로, 간판 그대로, 가게를 칵테일바로 탈바꿈한 것이 현재의 장생건강원이다.
Tucked in an alley of Yeongdong Market behind Nonhyeon Station, a neon sign glows: Jangsaeng Health Center. The name sounds like a place selling red ginseng juice or herbal tonics — and it once was. For nearly 20 years, an actual health supplement shop operated here. The new owners kept the name, kept the sign, and turned the whole thing into a cocktail bar.
외국산 프리미엄 스피릿을 자랑하는 여느 강남 바와는 결이 다르다. 영동시장에서 직접 공수한 한약재, 청양고추, 도라지, 깻잎 같은 재료들이 칵테일 베이스로 들어간다. 슬로건은 “칵테일을 처방해드립니다.” 메뉴북도 한의원 느낌의 가죽 제본이다. 컨셉이 끝까지 흔들리지 않는다.

From the entrance, a narrow corridor stretches deep into the space. Hanji paper lanterns hang in a row from the dark ceiling, and ink-brushed hanja calligraphy lines the walls. TV monitors mounted overhead play Korean broadcasts. The result is an oddly compelling blend of traditional market grit and late-night bar atmosphere.
바 카운터 자리가 핵심이다. 바텐더가 눈앞에서 칵테일을 만드는 장면을 바로 볼 수 있고, 벽 선반 가득 꽂힌 술병들이 배경이 된다. 수상 트로피와 증서들도 보이는데, 서정현 바텐더는 국가대표 출신의 컴피티션 바텐더다.
